Action Plan Marketing from Robert Middleton is the leading site for Independent Professionals and Sole Practitioners. There is a ton of free material and an excellent weekly e-zine. Robert’s concept of “Marketing Ball” – a metaphor for professional services business development is a brillint way to think about marketing and selling your services. And the free marketing start-up kit you get when you sign-up for the e-zine is better than most you’ll pay a lot of cash for.

Prime Resource Group – Jeff Thull and his team focus on business development solutions for complex sales – large equipment, high tech – and professional services. Site features a number of articles plus recordings of Jeff’s speeches and webinars.

Jerry Sears – resources include a summary of Sears’ research on rainmaking, audio broadcasts, and details of Jerry’s online coaching programe for rainmakers.

Executive Wisdom – Australia-based Ric Willmot’s Executive Wisdom site includes a number of articles (nicely cross-reference by relevant profession) and details of Ric’s services. Ric’s blog is at www.ricwillmot.com

Will Kintish – Networking is one of the key business development approaches for professionals – and Will is the UK’s leading speaker and authority on the subject. Will’s hints and tips page contains a ton of article and audio resources on business networking – plus some great videos on “how not to network”.

Larry Bodine Marketing – Law firm marketing. Site includes articles and a (very) frequently updated blog.

Amazing Firms, Amazing Practices – Canadian Gerry Riskin’s site – covers many aspects of managing a law firm, but has a lot on business development & marketing – plus a very eclectic blog.

Nisus Consulting – UK-based consultants and researchers specialised in law firms. Site includes a number of articles and links to their research reports.

The Closers Group – Allan Coleman’s Closers Group focus on business development for law firms – site includes articles and a regularly updated blog.

Golden Practices – Michelle Golden of Golden Marketing’s blog – lots of general professional services information – but also with a specific focus on accountancy.

Rob Nixon – an Australian business coach specialising in accounting – lots of articles in the “Free Stuff” section, including a number on business development.

Accounting Practice Business Development – Craig Week’s blog on business development for accountants has possibly the longest blog subtitle in history, but is actually chock-full of great practical tips and real-world anecdotes about selling accountancy services. Huge value for accountants – but also for other professionals.

Consulting Sites

Summit Consulting – Alan Weiss’s firm – site includes Alan’s blog and a huge number of articles and free resources from the leading guru for independent consultants. Particularly useful is Alan’s thinking on value-based fees.

Guerilla Consulting – marketing and business winning for consulting firms from Jay Conrad Levinson’s Guerilla brand.
